Following a campaign in the UK, the below tweet emerged yesterday to educate Irish road users on how to properly address a female member of the force, if they are ever stopped by one.
Although the tweet doesn’t appear to be from the official Twitter account, the message is important nonetheless.
They proceed to list the titles that are not acceptable, which include ‘Sugartits’, Sweetheart’, ‘Babe’ and ‘Lass’. They have said that the only way you should ever refer to a female Garda is by calling her Garda or Guard.

While there is a lighthearted approach to issue, it’s worrying that this needs to even be brought up. You can be sure there wouldn’t be as long a list for names used to talk to male Gardaí.
