Girl hailed a hero for trying to protect stranger from ‘cheating’ boyfriend

Things weren't quite as they seemed, though.

A guy was caught out “cheating” on his girlfriend after a stranger sent her a photo of him flirting with another girl.

Jasmine Rios was sent the pictures of her boyfriend’s supposed indiscretion via a direct message from a classmate that she hadn’t met before.

And while they hadn’t met in person, the two girls had crossed paths on Twitter – which led the girl, Rebekah, to believe she recognised Jasmine’s boyfriend.

The s eries of messages began:

“Hey girl, I know we don’t know each other, just been mutuals on Twitter for a little bit. I go to UTSA too.

“But I recognise [a guy] who I think is your boyfriend in the library from y’all’s pictures on here, and he’s with a girl and he’s being kind of touchy with her.”

Alongside the series of messages, she shared a photo of the pair sitting cosily on a sofa in the school library.

Rebekah continued:

“I hope this doesn’t cause you a lot of problems.

“I feel really bad but I just thought it’d be wrong to witness it and not say anything, you know? Tell me if you want me to fight him, I’ll be here for a while.”

But things in the photo weren’t quite as they appeared.

It turns out that Jasmine’s boyfriend has an identical twin brother – and that’s who Rebekah spotted in the library, chatting to his own girlfriend.

Thankfully, it sounds like everyone involved was able to see the funny side of it.

Jasmine shared the exchange on Twitter, where she added:

“So my boyfriend has a identical twin brother and someone thought my boyfriend was cheating on me but it was really his brother and his girlfriend.

“Thanks for having my back though girl.”

The original tweet has since gone viral, with more than 240,000 likes and 44,000 retweets and both Jasmine and Rebekah earning praise.

Plenty of people said they hoped the duo would become pals after this, while others awarded commended Rebekah for speaking up.

One person said:

“y’all are basically strangers and she’s down to help you, BEFRIEND HER, these are the kind of people we need in our lives.”

Another added:

“We all need a Rebekah.”

Someone else commented:

“This is the most beautiful thing i’ve ever seen on twitter.”
