The countdown to the All-Irelands is officially on!
This coming Sunday, September 13th, Croke Park will play host to a feast of camogie action as the Premier Junior, Intermediate and Senior Liberty Insurance championship finals take place.
It has also been announced that this Sunday will mark the first time technology system ‘Hawk-Eye’ will be used by a female Gaelic Games organisation.
The Camogie Association confirmed the news ahead of the finals which will see Cork and Galway do battle for glory in the senior championship, Waterford and Kildare will fight it out for intermediate honours, while Roscommon and Laois will be aiming for victory in the Premier Junior final.
Not only will Hawk-Eye determine whether or not a point was scored if required, but it can also track how fast the ball was hit and should provide a useful insight into the game.
Speaking about the use of Hawk-Eye Camogie Association President Catherine Neary said:
“We will be the first female Gaelic Games code to avail of this technology to verify scores.”
“It is an exciting element to add to our All-Ireland finals and the data collected will prove valuable from a coaching and games point of view and also an enhanced spectator experience.”
The Liberty Insurance All-Ireland finals kick off on Sunday from 12pm.
