Heatons department store have been taking a bit of heat this week after they unveiled a new chocolate bar to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising.
The bar, which is being dubbed the ‘choclamation’ has come under fire from some Twitter users, with many believing that it will undermine the commemoration of the historical event.
The bar will retail in store for approximately €3 and the wrapper is also causing a lot of debate as it features images of the seven executed rebel leaders alongside the proclamation.
To be truly patriotic, Heatons should have called it Choccy-árlá ! @AntonSavageShow

A chocolate bar? Surely a chocolate egg would have been more appropriate commemoration for the Easter Rising? #liveline

I like Malcolm Byrne but totally disagree with him regarding 1916 chocolate, any measure that makes it more inclusive is welcome #liveline

@kencurtin I agree. Hence my 1916 commemorative toilet paper proposal. #Liveline
