According to Sternberg, being truly in love with someone means being sexually attracted to your partner (passion), feeling a strong bond and closeness to your partner (intimacy) and being willing to make the effort to make a relationship work despite the daily struggles (commitment).
Sternberg argues that while we may feel one or two parts of the relationship, it’s only when the three qualities are combined that we can say our coupledom is at its peak point.
