Here’s one place you can get drink in Dublin today

Laura Holland

Looking for a glass or two this Good Friday?

Another Good Friday means a day of rest for publicans in Ireland, but it also means that no one can purchase alcohol. We’ve come to live with this tradition and hold off for one day.

Well, apart from 2010 when pubs in Limerick City was able to serve alcohol due to a match in Thomond Park. That was a good year.

If you really can’t wait for the one day then there is one place in Dublin which is allowed to break the Good Friday rule.

La Peniche on the Grand Canal in Dublin are serving drinks today. The boat, which docks opposite the Mespil Hotel, is your chance to sip on a drink.

Selling alcohol on a boat that is moving is one of the exemptions of the act which forbids the sale of alcohol on Good Friday.

Remember, always drink responsibly.
