Sue’s Choice: One Very Brave Girl

Sue says: My favourite story of the week was the story about 10-year-old Alex Featherston who spoke really openly and honestly about the death of her father, Andy Morgan.

Popular and outgoing Andy Morgan took his own life on New Year’s Eve 2010 to the utter devastation and shock of his partner Joanne, his three children and many friends.
In the three years since his death, Joanne and Andy’s friends have focused their efforts and emotions towards ensuring others don’t have to go through what they’ve experienced.

Alex decided that she wanted to tell the story of her father from her perspective. This was truly heartbreaking.

Cathy’s Choice: Dumbledore’s Letter to a Survivor

Cathy says: I’m usually able to keep it together for the sad stories, at least on the outside but this one pretty much broke me. Cassidy Stay is the only survivor of a shooting in which all of her family were killed. The 15-year-old quoted a line from Harry Potter at a memorial service for her family and this led to J.K Rowling sending her a letter. Her story deserves a read because Cassidy is one amazing teenager.

Rebecca’s Choice: Born to Rock

Rebecca says: This little girl’s reaction when Katy Perry’s Dark Horse comes on the radio is priceless. Like, there really is no other word for it. In fact, and I can’t quite believe I’m admitting this, I found myself copying her facial expression and moving my arms about like a mad thing just watching her.

Michelle’s Choice: Seasons of Love

Michelle says: I am an absolute sucker for these wedding surprise videos. Good when the bride and groom have a trick up their sleeves, but better still when the guests are the ones surprising the newly married couple! So, I adored this lovely video from the wedding of Conor Flynn and Claire Dunne. Family and friends got together to surprise the pair with a fabulous rendition of a musical classic. I may have cried.

Liz’ Choice: The Real Life Notebook

Liz says: I’m a sucker for real love stories. Yes, I love Hollywood and the glamour of rom-coms, but real honest love that doesn’t need to be perfect always wins out. Like this story of Don and Maxine, who spent 63 years together. They were totally in love, and I’m sure they had their ups and downs, but it didn’t matter, once they had each other. So this ending seemed kind of perfect for the couple…

Marie’s Choice: There’s No Place Like Home

Marie says: This is my favourite story this week for many reasons. Firstly, these lads look like they’re having the absolute craic. Secondly, Brax from Home and Away makes a guest appearance and finally, it reminds me that there’s just no place like home!

Grace’s Choice: Who You Gonna Call?

Grace says: This week was an easy choice. A man from Portsmouth was arrested for possibly the most bizarre reason ever. Police apprehended him after he was caught scaring people in a cemetery by pretending to be a ghost.

Although I’m against disrespectful behaviour, particularly in an area like a graveyard, I did find this story absolutely hilarious and I will not lie, I really wish someone caught it on camera.
