Irish Distillers have launched Cork’s very first “Whiskey Way” trail, celebrating Ireland’s finest whiskeys and pubs.

The Cork Whiskey Way, is a special self-guided whiskey tour that’s set in the heart of the rebel county.

The guide is available as a free iPhone app or people can simply avail of a printed map from various pubs, tourist centres and the Old Jameson Distillery in Midleton.

The trail will bring on a guide of the city and features 10 pubs that are renowned for their bartending and their passion for whiskey.

Users will have the option of tasting Irish whiskey, served by experienced bartenders trained by the Irish Distillers Whiskey Academy in Midleton who will educate, enlighten and engage tasters with the history behind each premium Irish whiskey.

“The Cork Whiskey Way will showcase the integral role that the city of Cork plays in the craft and heritage of distilling and whiskey making” said Managing Director of Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, Pat Magee.

“Many are aware of the strong local brewing history here, but it is actually distilleries that made Cork famous in the 1800s and 1900s” he added.

“Irish Distillers has been making whiskeys in Cork since 1966 and we are proud of the skill and craftsmanship that takes place at the Midleton Distillery, and want our publicans and consumers to share in this history and pride.

“Every drop of the 51 million bottles of Jameson that was sold worldwide last year was produced here in Cork along with many other internationally celebrated Irish whiskeys such as Powers, PADDY, Midleton and our growing range of single pot still whiskies.”

Within each pub there will be a Cork Whiskey Way framed picture with a QR code and once four of the codes within the ten destinations have been scanned, users will receive a certificate of completion signed by Brian Nation, Master Distiller, along with a complimentary pass to the Jameson Experience Visitor’s Centre in Midleton.

The ten bars of the Whiskey Way are: Canty’s, Counihan’s, Electric, Le Chateau, SoHo Bar, The Mutton Lane Inn, The Oliver Plunkett, The Oval, The Roundy and The Woodford.
