Waterford garda David Hearne is being hailed as a hero this week after rescuing two young men from rivers in the county.
According to The Irish Mirror, Hearne sprang into action last week when a man entered the River Suir at Rice Bridge in the city and brought him to the safety at Sallypark. On Monday, the brave garda was again involved in a dramatic rescue when he went to the aid of a young man who fell into the Colligan River in Dungarvan and pulled him ashore.
This is not the first time that Garda Hearne has been commended for his contribution to the force, having been involved in up to seven rescues and receiving a medal for Marine Gallantry at the Marine Meritorious Awards for saving two men from drowning in Waterford on the same day in April 2007.
