It’s the little things that mean a lot according to a senior lecturer in social policy who spoke to John Murray on RTE Radio 1.
According to the Irish Examiner, Jacqui Gabb led a study of more than 5000 people over two years which discovered that feeling loved was more important than being told that they were loved.
Gabb told Murray that women valued being brought a cup of tea by their partner when asked what made them feel appreciated.
Gabb commented: “We asked an open question — what makes you feel appreciated in a relationship and women were saying a cup of tea. It is that small, kind and thoughtful gesture.”
Sharing household chores was also another factor in a healthy relationship. All of the participants appreciated cooking being done by their partner.
Gabb confirmed that the study showed a lot of difference among middle-aged men and women. Women over 55 scored lower on relationship satisfaction.
The results came from studies conducted on over three million people worldwide. The surveys were conducted by Gallup.
