Kildare girl shares horrible Tinder messages to highlight abusive trolling on dating apps

The messages she received were grotesque...

Dating in 2016 can be hard.

Considering we’re all glued to our phones, laptops or television all the time, it seems like there less and less evidence of love around, with chances of cheating only growing higher.

Apps like Tinder and Plenty Of Fish aim to help singletons match up with their significant other, but among the sparks that some pairs may ignite in their burgeoning conversations, there lies a growing trend of cyberbullying between matches when one half of the match does not get what they want.

Another disappointing display of messages between a Tinder match has been revealed by Caoimhe Phillips. Caoimhe shared the messages to spread awareness of the cruelty of some people on Tinder and to warn girls to be wary of men online.

Talking to Her.ie, she told us why she shared the conversation between her and Tinder match ‘Shane’:

“It was few months back and it upset me a lot, but I didn’t know whether to just leave it and forget as I even felt embarrassed over it. But decided today that people should see as I’ve been seeing so many other posts on abuse on Tinder”.

The messages themselves make for grim reading.

The second page of texts show an even darker side to ‘Shane’, telling Caoimhe that she looked like “a good fuck”, “a whore” and “an object” and assumed she spent her nights “choking on a dick”.

Caoimhe told us how she reacted to the hateful messages, confessing she was extremely upset.

“Honestly…I bawled my eyes out and felt quite shook…and I’ve had people say, ‘You’re too sensitive, that’s the norm on Tinder, just ignore it and move on’. I don’t understand why it should be just accepted and ignored. I found myself examining all my pictures on Tinder wondering should I change them because it was my fault for being spoken to like that…”

Banter and jokes with people you do or don’t know online is one thing, but this behaviour is deplorable, and necessary steps should be taken when in a situation like Caoimhe’s.

Block the person as soon as you can and never participate in a situation you feel uncomfortable in.
