The Metropolitan Police are preparing for further search activity in Portugal for missing Madeleine McCann, with plans to resume the hunt in ‘forthcoming weeks’.

British detectives investigating the disappearance of Madeleine seven years ago have been granted permission to excavate two sites at the Algarve resort where she was last spotted. The then toddler had been on holiday with her family when she vanished.

Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Kate and Gerry McCann, said Madeleine’s parents are “being kept fully informed” amid reports that British police are to start digging for evidence in the Portuguese resort where Madeline went missing in May 2007.

Speaking to ITV News, Mitchell said:

“As always, we simply will not comment on operational details of Operation Grange, that is a matter for the Met Police. Kate and Gerry are being kept fully informed throughout.”
