A 34-year-old man is facing sentencing today for the 2013 attack and rape on a girl with down syndrome.
Faisal Ellahi was found guilty of the offence last December, following a five-week trial.
During the trial, it was found that the girl became separated from her mother on the street before being stopped by Ellahi. He lured her to his house where the attack occurred.
Ellahi, originally from Haripur in Pakistan, pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court to rape, sexual assault and having sex with a mentally impaired person at his Dublin home on June 12, 2013.
During the trial, the jury watched DVD footage of interviews with the victim. Mr. Justice Tony Hunt also heard a victim impact statement from the victim’s mother.
Hunt said he would only consider suspending some of his sentence if Ellahi agreed to leave Ireland upon release.
