Poor Kai.
A dog owner in the US tried to put his canine down because he said he was overweight. According to Good Morning America, the Golden Retriever was brought to the vet and asked to be euthanized, however the vet refused to do it.
Instead, the vet helped the dog, Kai, find a new family.
Pam Heggie ended up taking ownership of Kai and put him on the right track to being healthy again.
“(Kai) is the most overweight animal I’ve ever seen…anything you do is gonna help that dog. Anything that he will let you do is good for him,” the vet told Pam.
She said when she first brought the doggo home, it took him around 20 minutes to walk up the stairs.
Kai was 100lbs and Pam helped him lose half of that.
They started off the weight loss journey by going on walks three times a day. At first Kai found these hard but Pam said that he was determined to do it.
He also went on a strict diet and started water therapy to strengthen his back and legs.
After a while, Kai started to show improvement. He would be able to hop into the car and even run to the local park.
“I look at him and forget how broken he was. Now he’s just a regular dog doing regular dog things like everybody else.”
