A quick guide to CBD: Here's all you need to know from a doctor's perspective

We're talking to a doctor about all the science BITS!

Medicinal cannabis and CBD in all its forms is definitely a hot topic in the medical community at the moment. There's so much information out there, as well as controversy, we wanted to speak directly to a doctor who has in-depth knowledge from a scientific background and who can tell us exactly what the benefits are. We also wanted to learn why some members of the medical community continue to shy away from medicinal cannabis as a form of treatment.

Dr Julie Moltke is founder and Editor-in-Chief of Dosage, an online magazine that explores the world of cannabis health and wellness through a doctor's lens. A former surgeon, Dr.Moltke believes in personalised medicine and a holistic approach to illness. She's dedicated years of her life to understanding the science behind CBD and is on a mission to make science-backed knowledge about cannabis and general health available to a wider audience to help people live a full and healthy life.

We invited Julie on #GirlsWithGoals this week to talk about what the benefits of using CBD actually are. This includes the science behind it, what's the best options for beginners in terms of how to actually take CBD (vapes, oils, salves etc.) and can it really help with stress and anxiety?

A little dash of legal here; CBD is not illegal under the Misuse of Drugs Act in Ireland. Despite this, it's worth keeping in mind that CBD is also not currently authorised as a medicinal product by the Health Products Regulatory Authority. This means that it is not considered as a treatment option and CBD products can not be prescribed by doctors, CBD oil can also only be sold legally in Ireland if all traces of THC are removed.
