Seven Reasons We Really Want To Visit New York This Winter

The Big Apple is calling...

Her

Daydreaming about trips to New York is a full-time hobby here at Her Towers. World-class cuisine, top-notch musical theatre, shopping to die for, and galleries like nowhere else on the planet.

It’s the city to go to if you’re looking for the best of the best, and frankly, we’re a little obsessed.

Here are seven reasons we really want to go to the city that never sleeps this winter…

1. Shop ’til you drop

The Big Apple is a shopping mecca. That’s just a fact. And the great news for visitors is that landmark NYC stores seem to love us as much as we love them. Both Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s boast visitor centres that will give you additional discounts once you produce your passport, offering you ten percent off almost everything in store. Head to Canal Street in Chinatown for your designer replicas, or Bergdorf Goodman, where the possibilities are as endless as your credit card limit.

2. The ice-skating

Because if you’re going to brave the rink, you might as well do it New York style. Get your skates on and head to the famous Woolman Rink in Central Park, or The Rink at Rockefeller Centre. Or possibly both.

3. Coffee culture

New York’s coffee scene is one of the best in the world, so if you’re a cappuccino addict like we are, you’ll be in heaven. Life in New York moves pretty fast, so perk yourself up with your favourite cuppa joe in one of the many first-class coffee shops. Cafe Grumpy, Blue Bottle and Cafe Pedlar are all highlights.

On a side note, the countdown to red cups is on – seriously, you can check it out here. So whether you like your winter latte infused with pumpkin spice, toffee nut, chestnut praline, gigerbread or Christmas cookies, you’ll find your perfect festive cawfee in New York.

4. Food glorious food

Spoilt. for. choice. No matter what type of cuisine is top of your hitlist, you’ll have a huge choice of awesome eateries in New York. Grab a slice of famous New York pizza on the go or sit down for a Japanese feast in Nobu. The toughest decision you’ll face during your trip will be choosing a place to dine!

5. The snow

What’s better than a trip to New York? You’ve guessed it, a trip to New York in the SNOW! We all dream of a white Christmas, and it’s the best city in the world to experience it. Bundle up in scarves, hats and snoods, and soak up the festive atmosphere like you never have done before.

6. The Broadway shows

No visit to New York is complete without taking in one of the incredible shows on Broadway. The city is home to the best live theatre in the world. And it’s not to be missed. From all of your Disney favourites like The Lion King and Aladdin, to classics like Matilda, Wicked and Les Mis, there is something for everyone. Take your pick, book your tickets and sit back and enjoy.

7. All of the sparkling Christmas lights

Nowhere in the world does Christmas quite like New York. And if you’re a holiday fanatic like we are, that’s surely reason enough to fly across the Atlantic when the temperatures take a dip! When darkness falls, head to the Top of The Rock (the observation deck at the top of the Rockefeller Centre) or the Empire State Building to soak in the incredible displays of twinkling lights around the city. Bundle up and take a walk along the Brooklyn Bridge to enjoy the green and red lights of the Empire State Building, and get that magical Christmassy feeling.
