We’ve heard of people going to extreme measures to be with the one they love but this is quite shocking.

A woman in the US has revealed how she underwent a double mastectomy in order to be recognised as a man and be legally entitled to marry her lesbian partner.

According to the Daily Mail, Christine Tringali Nunes (44) was married to her husband Joe for seven years before they both came out as gay in a 2006 episode of Oprah.

Eight years later, the mother-of-two revealed that she is now the wife of the ‘love of her life’ Jacki, who first spotted her on the show and thought she was “beautiful”. The pair met and began a relationship, with Christine going on to ask Jacki to marry her.

However, same sex marriage was illegal in California at the time and Jacki decided to take the major step of transitioning to a transgender so she could take advantage of a legal loophole and make Christine her wife.

The pair have since married and Christine said that they live a happy life together in Sacremento.

“I was so overwhelmed that somebody would do such a thing. It was the biggest act of love anyone has ever done for me,” she said.

‘Life is really sweet for me now. I’m surrounded by wonderful friends, I have a wonderful community, my children are doing great.”
