Finally there’s no need to worry about cropping out heads or feet, white spaces or awkward proportions. You’ll now be able to use the ‘format icon’ arrows on the bottom left corner of the photo to change the way your photo appears.
Confirming the news on Thursday, Instagram said:
"Anything with an aspect ratio between 1.91:1 and 4:5 will be supported from landscape to portrait.
"To keep the clean feel of your profile grid, your post will appear there as a centre-cropped square. But once you click on the photo, it will appear as the shape you chose.”
Instagram upped it’s image game when they noted that one in every five photos uploaded to Instagram is now outside the regular square shape.
Fan of making mini videos on the site?
Instagram is now going to you let you add the same types of filters available for all photos to be added to your film graphic on site too:
"While we’ve historically had separate filters for photos and for videos, all filters will now work on all types of moments.
"You can also adjust the intensity of filters on videos, too."
Prepare for a weekend of selfies, videos and arty food snaps, complete with portrait, landscape and filter effects.
What? Us, excited? Never...
