A teenager that struck a chord in hearts across the world has raised almost £5 million for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Stephen Sutton was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the age of 15. He created a bucket list (which later went viral) when he was told that his cancer was incurable in 2012.

He initially aimed to reach his fundraising target of £10,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust but by the time he passed away, the fund had already reached over £3 million.

Now, that figure has risen to almost £5 million.

As well as refurbishing seven cancer units in NHS hospitals in Scotland and England, alongside 50 Stephen Sutton Scholarships in order to train specialists workers, the money will also pay for teenage cancer patients to attend special events.

More of the fund will go towards developing an online resource for teenagers, giving young cancer patients a means of connecting with each other.

Stephen’s bucket list included a skydive and playing the drums at Wembley. His message reached thousands of people in April when he posted “a final thumbs up” on his Facebook account after he was rushed to hospital.

In his final few weeks, he was made an MBE for his fundraising efforts and was visited by David Cameron. He passed away on May 14th at the age of 19, leaving a fantastic legacy behind him.
