While the world is still trying to digest the news of last weekend’s attacks in Paris, children in the area remain confused by events adults still can’t find the words to explain.
Le Petit Journal is a daily short news show broadcast on French TV station Canal+.
The host Yann Barthès went down to the Bataclan theatre to speak with those who were paying tribute to the victims of the attacks.
Amongst the crowd, they started talking to a father and his young son.
When asked by the reporter if he understood what happened on Friday night, the little boy answers that “bad men with guns” attacked French citizens.
He also voices his own fears that his family will have to leave their homes, or they could be attacked with guns by these same men.
His father’s response is pretty spectacular (as translated by the
Huffington Post):
Father: “No, don’t worry, we don’t have to change homes. France is our home.”
Son: "But there are bad guys, Daddy”
Father: "Yes, but there are bad guys everywhere.”
Son: "They have guns, they can shoot at us because they have guns and are bad.”
Father: "Well, they have guns, but we have flowers.”
Son: "But flowers don’t do anything.”
Father: "See all the flowers? They’re to fight against the guns."
Son: "Are they there to protect? The candles too?"
Father: "There you go. It’s to not forget those who left us yesterday.”
Son: “The flowers and the candles, they’re there to protect us."
When the reporter asks the little boy if he’s feeling better – his response is a resounding yes:
"Yep, I’m feeling better."
"Les méchants, c'est pas très gentil."➡ http://bit.ly/1Lix9L2#LPJ
