We all know the drill.

A new Netflix show starts streaming and without even trying, we’re halfway through a season before we’ve cracked open the Ben & Jerrys.

Now Netflix have taken a long, hard look at when a person clicks, pauses, plays and watches a show, looking for the time someone becomes ‘hooked’ by a series.

The first thing the entertainment site found was that the pilot episode is rarely pulling in the punters.

Looking at accounts in more than 14 countries, the data analysed the habits of Netflix users that started watching season one of selected series between January and July 2015.

Breaking down the stats for 12 separate series, the team company found that the following episodes were the turning point in capturing viewers’ attention for the remainder of series one:

So how are Netflix marking the turning point episode?

According to the company:

“70% of viewers who watched the hooked episode went on to complete season one.”

Netflix could not identify what plot points sucked people in, only which episode.

So what does this mean for viewers?

While we can’t give you the guarantee you’re going to want to sit through every episode on offer, we think it’s definitely a nice little marking point to weigh up our options of becoming weathered watchers of a show.
