For starters, don’t book your tickets on a Friday, Saturday or Monday – as these are typically the days with the highest airline prices.
Instead opt for a Tuesday to secure your seats.
It’s all down to timing as well, with a recent Expedia survey finding that you can save up to €250 if you book international flights 171 days in advance, while you’re looking at pocketing a €50 saving for domestic flights booked 57 days ahead of your departure date.
Want to make a long weekend of it?
According to Expedia, a long-haul flight (more than six hours) that leaves on a Friday and gets back on a Saturday is 20 per cent more expensive than one that leaves on Thursday and gets back on a Monday.
The most expensive short-haul flights are those that book on a Friday to return on Saturday night.
So planning an October break or looking at the trip of a lifetime next year?
Best pull out the calendar and start working on your maths skills.
