This is the recommended sign-off for an email

That answers that.

Cathy Donohue

Phew.

When typing an important email, it can be stressful figuring what is the most appropriate way to end it.

If it’s work related, you want to be approachable but not over-friendly and that can be a hard one to crack.

However, the experts have the answer and spoke to The Independent UK about the best way to sign-off which just so happens to be “best”.

It’s hard to know what the best option is

Aliza Licht, author of the career guide, Leave Your Mark, Will Schwalbe, co- author of SEND: Why People Email So Badly and How to Do It Better, and business etiquette expert Barbara Pachter all agree that “best” is the way forward because it is safe, inoffensive and appropriate for most situations.

Sign-offs to steer way from, according to the experts, are “thanks”, “thanks so much”, (premature gratitude) “your sincerely”, “yours faithfully” (too stuffy) and talk soon (too casual).

One step closer to composing the perfect email.
