This Is The Scientific Reason Why Some Men Rest Their Hands Down Their Pants

It’s one of those strange habits we can never really get our heads around.

Why do some men rest their hands down their pants?

Whether it’s watching some TV, travelling on public transport or sometimes during an awkward business meeting, men can have a habit of slipping their hands down south.

This could be to rest their hand in the band of their pants, readjust their package or actually

So what’s the deal with the touching?

Apparently, it’s not a sexual sign and it’s much more likely a defensive gesture to protect himself.

According to one psychologist Vanessa Van Edwards, a man resting his hand on his package is a default position when they relax because they feel more at ease with their essential organs out of harm’s way.

It’s also been suggested that a man might be having some southern palm exposure as a way to ease his nerves. According to a study in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, when men touch or rub his stomach or body parts in a non-erotic way, it can trigger a release of oxytocin – the stress calming nerve – in his body.

So is there ever a time when a man’s hand down his pants is ever intentionally domineering?

According to Rob Kominiarek, founder of the Alpha Male Medical Institute, men who put their hands down their trousers or touch their southern areas in a work environment feel threatened and use the action to signal their dominance.

This is most common when the male is feeling insignificant or slighted by another male colleague.

So while it might seem odd, or a little strange, the chances are his hand actions are more protective than predatory.

Saying that, it’s still not a view we need after a long day in work.
