What are the best parks in Dublin? We select five of our favourites…

Take us there!

Louise Carroll

Since we finally have some sunshine back in our lives, we think its time to take advantage of what the capital has to offer.

Here are our absolute favourite spots to soak up the sun.

1. Phoenix Park

Of course it’s number one! Boasting an expansive 700 hectares, Phoenix Park has everything you could possibly need for a great day out. It’s most popular attraction is Dublin Zoo but the park also has a vast biodiversity so there are plenty of birds and mammals to be spotted on the grounds too (including the famous deer). Polo, cricket, soccer, and GAA are popular sports played in the park. There’s also the perfect playground for children and it stays open until sunset all year round.

2. St Anne’s Park

Situated between Raheny and Clontarf, St Anne’s has plenty to offer. On Saturdays, local food markets are there serving delicious meals. The rose gardens are truly magnificent during the summer months and there’s plenty of activity to take part in. The park maintains tennis courts and even a par 3 golf course.

3. St Stephen’s Green

The superbly kept Victorian park is easily accessible. Its perimeter is covered with tall trees and shrubs making it the perfect escape in the middle of an urban landscape. The children’s playground is hugely popular and there are ducks that need feeding too! Don’t forget to look out for concerts held around lunchtime during the summer months.

4. Marlay Park

The park’s many recreational activities include a BMX cycle track, a par 3 golf course, tennis courts, and a cricket pitch. The 120 hectares of green give plenty of room to dog walkers as well as runners who like to take part in the 5k run every Saturday. The children’s playground is always bustling with action and the miniature train will be re-opening for the summer soon.

5. Ardgillan Castle

There’s a dog friendly café! Not only that but the guided tours of this 18th century house are hugely popular with visitors. Then there are the spectacular gardens and an epic playground area that overlooks the Irish Sea (hello, remarkable views). When visiting, bring a picnic or your favourite foods for the communal BBQ area.
