2. Grab some cocktails with the gals
Fancy a few pre-dinner drinks? No bother. Sligo is well known for its selection of bars... and with good reason too.
For some premium drinks and light bites you need to check out Lillie's Cocktail Bar, while the chic Bourbon Bar is perfect for some tasty tipples and artisan pizza.
The Clayton Hotel Sligo's Sinergie Restaurant and Bulben’s Bar & Bistro is also worth a shout if you're looking for a variety of delicious food and expertly mixed drinks.
Bulben’s Bar includes a specialist cocktail menu, boasting delectable drinks like their 'Salted Caramel Espresso Martini' and the expertly named 'Quarantine Order.' So, another round?
3. Take a walk along Streedagh Strand
One of the most stunning beaches Sligo has got to offer (and there are many), Streedagh Strand is a must-see when visiting the county.
A vast sandy beach complete with its own lagoon, Streedagh Strand is the perfect spot for those impromptu picnics, long strolls, or even a dip in the water... if you're brave enough!
A walk through the beach's dunes is a must. The views from the land are breathtaking - you can even see the Donegal mountains across the sea - and the calmness of the spot will leave you shocked that you're still so close to town.
Normal People was also filmed in part on this very beach. If that's not enough to entice you, we don't know what is!
4. Treat yourself to a spa day
You deserve it. No girly getaway or couples retreat is complete without a trip to the spa - and luckily for you, Sligo's got a fair few of them.
If you're looking for something a bit different, a trip to the Kilcullen Seaweed Baths is a surefire way to add a little bit of a luxury into your staycation. VOYA's Seaweed Baths have proven to be very popular among travellers too.
The Clayton Hotel Sligo also have their own gorgeous on-site luxury spa, Essence Spa. Boasting an array of treatments from manicures to massages to facials and body treatments, you won't be stuck for choice during your day of tranquility. We'd recommend the Essence Spa Taster - it's got a little bit of everything.
Guests of the hotel also have complimentary access to the Club Vitae Leisure Club's swimming pool and gym. Ideal for those hoping to stay active on their holidays.
5. Hit the waves at Strandhill
A trip to the West simply wouldn't be compete without taking up some surfing - and naturally, there's no better place for it than Sligo. It's called the 'Surf Coast of the Wild Atlantic Way' for a reason.
There are plenty of great spots for catching some waves across the county, but if you're new to the surf, never fear. The sport can be accessible to most people no matter your experience, as long as you go to the right place.
Strandhill Surf School is currently offering private group lessons, ideal for your girly getaway, hen, or whatever the occasion. More seasoned thrill seekers can grab their board and head out to the tantalising waves of Enniscrone, Easkey, and the legendary Mullaghmore.
Sligo also offers an array of kayaking tours too - an ideal way to explore the county's tranquil lakes and stunning scenery.
See? There really is something for everybody.
