Two abandoned cats co-parent kittens after giving birth together

The two mums are inseparable.

Two abandoned cats have given birth hours apart and become co-parents to their little kittens.

Mums-to-be Romana and Florentine were found discarded by some bins at an apartment building in London just days before Christmas.

Thankfully, it wasn’t too long before they were rescued by one of the building’s residents and giving a warm space away from the horrible winter weather.

On Christmas Eve, Florentine gave birth to three kittens, and Romana followed suit in the early hours of Christmas day with another four.

The kind-hearted woman who took them in described her Christmas as the “strangest” one she’s ever had.

She called an animal welfare charity, Mayhew, who came and collected all nine cats.

The kittens were all given names inspired by pizza – Oregano, Meatball, Pepperoni, Calzone, Napoletana, Pineapple, and Margarita.

The two cats and their babies were soon found a foster home with a woman named Nicola from North Kensington.

“I was a little nervous about taking so many cats in one go, the most I’ve ever taken is five,” Nicola told Metro.

“Also, I wondered if they had any health issues but I need not have worried, all were very hardy and robust. Any concerns I had about taking them in just melted away as soon as they arrived.”

Florentine and Romana very quickly became comfortable in Nicola’s home.

“The kittens were immediately full of curiosity and exploring everything and everywhere,” she says.

‘The cats have been here for six weeks now. Their play den is in my kitchen and they have so many toys.”

As Nicola is only fostering the cats, they are still looking for a permanent home. More information can be found here.
