Six sparkling novels to add to your reading list.
Irish authors Lisa McInerney and Anne Enright have been shortlisted for this year’s Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction.
The award celebrates ‘excellence, originality and accessibility in writing by women from throughout the world,’ with the winner receiving €38,700 in prize money.
Enright has been recognised for her bestseller, The Green Road, while Galway writer Lisa McInerney has been shortlisted for her debut novel, The Glorious Heresies.
The Green Road tells the tale of the Madigan family as they return home to west Clare for one last Christmas in their home house to relive their childhood.
Set in Cork, The Glorious Heresies follows the story of how one messy murder affects the lives of five misfits living on the fringes of Ireland’s post-crash society.
Enright and McInerney are joined on the shortlist by:
- Hanya Yanagihara (A Little Life)
- Hannah Rothschild (The Improbability of Love)
- Elizabeth McKenzie (The Portable Veblen)
- Cynthia Bond (Ruby)
