Viral TikTok shows the moment teen rescues dog from bear
The shocking CCTV footage went viral yesterday.
A 17 year-old teenager from California has gone viral after she posted footage of the moment she fought off a mother bear to save her dogs.
Hailey, or tempurashrimp on TikTok, posted the terrifying video on her channel yesterday. The CCTV footage shows a mother bear and her cubs walking along her back garden fence while Hailey's dogs run outside and start barking at them.
In a matter of seconds, the teenager runs outside and attempts to rally her dogs back inside the house. However, the bear snatches her youngest dog, Valentina.
Without a second thought, Hailey decides to take on the bear and pushes her away. The bear and her cubs scatter and Hailey manages to get all of her pets safely inside.
In her captions, Hailey clarifies that all her dogs, as well as the bears, came away unharmed.
The teenager later explained what happened in a follow-up story-time video.
She told her followers that instances such as these are not uncommon, as she lives in a mountainous region in California.
"They start barking, our dogs, and I just thought they were barking at a dog, because they always bark at dogs, or squirrels or whatever," she begins.
"I go to tell them to stop, and when I go over there to see what they're barking at, I'm like, 'That's a funny looking dog'. By the time I get there, the bear is literally picking up one of my dogs."
Hailey added that "as her slave" she has to protect her pet.
"I go over to the bear, I look it in the eyes, and the first thing I think to do is push it. Push a bear. Push an apex predator.
"To be honest, I don't think I pushed her that hard. I just pushed her enough to make her lose her balance. So she drops my dog and I run out of there."
She added that in her scramble to save Valentina she sprained her finger and injured her knee. The animals, however, were absolutely fine.
