Watermelon Margaritas are going viral on TikTok and they look super easy to make

Sarah McKenna Barry

Who doesn’t love a cheeky margarita?

Over the past year, TikTok has become the go-to destination for simple recipes that pack a punch, and the platform’s most recent offering is no different.

Frozen Watermelon Margaritas are the latest boozy trend to hit the social media page and we can’t wait to try them. This refreshing take on the classic margarita consists of just five ingredients – watermelon, tequila, ice, lime and, naturally, salt. You’ll also need a blender or food processor.

TikTok user Salty Cocina breaks down the recipe step by step on her page.

To begin, slice up a generous amount of seedless watermelon and remove the rind. Pop it in your blender and add your desired amount of ice. Bear in mind that the amount of ice you use will impact the punch of your cocktail.

Next, add a third cup (about 80ml) of lime juice to the blender, as well as half a cup (about 112ml) of your favourite tequila. It goes without saying that if tequila’s not your jam, you can fire in any other spirit, but for the purpose of this recipe we’re aiming to approximate a margarita as best we can.

Blend your ingredients together until they’re nice and smooth. Meanwhile, rub lime around the rim of your glass and then dip it in salt. Once your beakers are looking fresh, divvy out your cocktail mix.

Feel free to embellish them with a wedge of lime at the top of your glass. If it’s particularly warm out, you can chill your glasses by leaving them in the freezer for a couple of minutes. Alternatively, you can fill them to the brim with ice while you make your cocktail.

Salty Cocina’s recipe appears to be going down well on the platform with many users trying it out for themselves. To check out more of her recipes, head on over to her TikTok page right here.
