Woman agrees to move 9,000 miles for Tinder date, is sadly dumped 2 weeks later

Cassie Stokes

We all make mistakes.

Mistakes are good because they teach us and we hopefully learn from them. And this is the type of mistake you can’t help but learn from!

Stephanie Gorton packed up her whole life with plans to move 9,000 miles away to live with a man she met on Tinder.

The 27 year old met her love when he was travelling around Australia. Things must have gone well considering she was ready to pack it all up and move across the word for him.

Love yourself enough to set boundaries ❤️ Your love, time & energy are not limitless and you deserve to protect them ?? I get it, its hard to say no. You feel like by setting boundaries that you’re going to let people down. But here’s what happens if you don’t set boundaries: You just keep going, answering calls, replying to texts, running from appointment to appointment, rushing to social commitments, running late, getting cranky at your loved ones, feeling guilty, feeling exhausted, ugly crying in the shower and eventually HITTING THE WALL ? Boundaries GIVE YOU LIFE. They allow you to switch off guilt free. By communicating to your clients, family or friends that you’re unavailable… you’re choosing uninterrupted time for you. Time that is NECESSARY to re-charge. To fill your cup up. To spend your time doing whatever the hell it is that makes you happy ? Then when you return to your workload, you have a pep in your step. That glow your clients love you for, that light hearted, caring nature your family & friends love about you. Patience is restored & you can show up fully for your commitments ?? But STEPH… how do I do it? #tipoftheday Communicate to your clients that your business is implementing some exciting changes and that due to increasing workload (yay) you’re setting aside dedicated time to contact & show up fully for your clients. Then state the days and times you’ll be available for them and DO NOT CONTACT OR REPLY TO THEM OUTSIDE OF THESE HOURS ✔️ Simple. Implement this and watch your life change ? Want more help getting time back in your business? I have 1x Strategy Call Available this week… Book via link in bio – I’d love to help you beauty xx #perth #perthsmallbusiness #perthisok #perthlife #perthblogger #girlboss #perthbusiness #perthcreatives #melbournebusiness #brisbanebusiness #adelaidebusiness #girlbossau #femaleentrepreneur #brisbaneevent #brisbanemarketing #brisbanecreative #brisbanesmallbusiness #bbloggersau #businessbrisbane #perthgirlboss #mindfulbiz #perthlifestyleblogger

The pair had a long distance relationship while he finished his travels around the world, then they started talking about plans to move in together in Scotland.

And then, two weeks before she got on the flight he ended things. She told Mamamia: “In those four weeks I was always trying to chase him up… I was even contacting his mum.

“In hindsight, there were red flags all the way through. It wasn’t like it was the perfect relationship, there were trust issues… but I adored him.”

The Australian “thought it was love, and love ‘wasn’t supposed to be easy but you fight for it’. That was my mentality.”

Two weeks before she got on the flight Stephanie says she got a phone call from the guy. He said: “Steph it’s just too hard, it shouldn’t be this hard. If it’s hard now, it’s going to be even harder later.

“You’re going to come over and have no friends. You’ll be relying on me and I am not in a good place financially. Let’s just take a step back and give it a bit more time.”

PRO TIP FOR YOUR MONDAY ✨ SO many women come to me with the same problem… They can’t seem to create consistent income. And honestly, I get it. It took me YEARS to figure out how to stabilise the flow of cash, create a full pipeline & confidently forecast & predict my income. It’s now something I help women do right from the start of their business journey (something I wish I’d been able to do sooner!). Here’s my top 3 tips you can use in your biz to help you create consistent months erry damn month: 1. KNOW THE GOAL ? How much do you want to earn in a year? $100k, $200k, $1 million? Break that down into monthly & weekly amounts & start figuring out if the prices your charging & the business model you’re running can actually get you there (p.s. YES you can earn a Million. Maybe not in the exact model you’re running right now, but if you’re willing to readjust & restructure then YES SIS you can ??) 2. SET KPI’s ? Yep, just like in your crappy day job you had when you were 22. You’ll need to sell a certain amount of your products / services to reach your monthly $$ goal, how will you ever reach that figure if you don’t know what it is?! ??‍♀️ The more focus you have on the goal, the more often you’ll find opportunities present themselves to help you get there! 3. FILL YOUR PIPELINE ??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️??‍♀️ Whats the average client life-cycle in your biz? Do you take clients on for 3 months at a time or 6 months? Do your clients tend to leave after 10 months? That’s ok, there’s no right or wrong… but you have to know so you can plan & prep to fill your pipeline. To keep that constant flow of clients. If you know your clients are going to leave every 6 months, then at around the 4 month mark you’re going to want to turn up your marketing to start reaching new clients (or upsell the current clients – but I’ll talk about this another day). We get so caught up working in our business, that sometimes these goal setting & planning tasks fall to the side. But its these EXACT tasks that will take you to you goals & beyond ? Save these tips for later and comment below your biggest takeaway… I’d love to know if you found this helpful! xx

Stephanie says she had a feeling he was seeing other women while dating her she said her “heart and gut already knew”.

Not only had she already shipped half her belongings over to Scotland, but she says “the worst part was, tail between my legs, going back to my job and to all the people who knew that I was supposed to be moving to Scotland in two weeks. I was deeply ashamed.”

Since the heartbreak, the 27 year old has moved on and has started up her own business, House of Hobby, where she employs 14 staff. Heartbreak can lead to amazing things, right?
