Woman In Nottingham Loses Six Stone By Following “World War II Diet”

Want to lose weight and save money?

If you want to be a real hipster, you might want to get in on this diet. Just kidding, no one should try this – life is too short to live like you’re in war times.

A single mom in Nottingham decided that she wanted to spend less money on food and lose as much weight as possible, so she found old pamphlets and ration recipes produced by the World War II’s Ministry of Food.

Guess what – she spent less and saved £3,000 over 12 months and lost almost 6 stone.

This is what her grocery list looked like:

  • 100g of bacon and ham
  • 226g of minced meat
  • 50g of butter
  • 50g of cheese
  • 100g of margarine
  • 100g of cooking fat
  • three pints of milk
  • 225g of sugar
  • 50g of tea
  • 1 shell egg or one packet of dried eggs every four weeks

Families would also have bread, oats, fruits and vegetables.

The mother of three took a while to adjust to the meagre and flavourless diet but said that her palette had changed very quickly.
