“So many people just walked past.”

Katherine Jenkins has recalled the time she stepped in to help an elderly woman during a mugging.

The singer was en route to a charity gig in London when she saw the woman in distress being asked for her handbag. Jenkins stepped in to help and ended up handing over her iPhone to the attacker.

“She was clearly in distress, screaming for help,” she told The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.

“So many people just walked past. It was an instinct to rush over and I got attacked as well. I didn’t consider that people might know who I am.”

“I was shaken up initially. But my instinct is always to keep going,” said Jenkins, who attended the charity gig after giving a statement to the police.

“If it happened again, I’d do it again (…) So many people just walked past. It was an instinct to rush over and, in doing so, I got attacked as well.

“It’s part of my faith to give people a chance and show forgiveness.”

The singer later performed at the Henry van Straubenzee charity carol concert at St Luke’s Church.

She said that she has since forgiven the attacker due to her Christian faith.
