A 15-year-old Irish girl has died after she drowned in a swimming pool while on holiday in Crete.
She was on holiday with her parents, in the village of Stalida, when she was found dead in the hotel swimming pool yesterday afternoon.
According to RTÉ, a local news outlet, cretapost.gr, has reported that her parents found her in the pool and called an ambulance. The paramedics arrived and tried to resuscitate her but were unable to.
She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body has been taken to a nearby hospital for an autopsy.
The Department of the Foreign Affairs is aware of the incident and are providing consular assistance to the family.
