A teenager has died after becoming ill at a debs in Co Galway in the early hours of this morning.

The girl, named locally as 19-year-old Jessica Moore from Bullaun in Loughrea, passed away after attending the St Raphael’s College debs at Gullane’s Hotel in Ballinasloe.

She first reported feeling unwell at around 2 am this morning, reports the Irish Examiner.

An ambulance was called and she was taken to Portiuncula Hospital in the town but was later pronounced dead.

The coroner was notified and a post mortem is due to be carried out tomorrow.

Gardaí are also investigating the death.

Ms Moore was set to receive her Leaving Cert results tomorrow.

A memorial has been placed at her school in Loughrea.

A death notice on RIP.ie describes her as a “cherished and much-loved sister” to her two siblings and notes the “inexpressible grief” of her parents.

She will, the notice reads, be “forever remembered by her uncles, aunts, uncles-in-law, aunts-in-law, cousins, extended family, neighbours and her many, many friends.”

Ms Moore will be laid to rest in her home parish on Thursday following a requiem mass.
