Horrible horrible news

A toddler in Utah has died after becoming trapped under a beanbag in a day care centre.

The child suffocated after a day care worker, unaware of the boy, sat on the beanbag.

The boy, Leonardo Sanchez would have turned 2 this week.

Tearfully his mother spoke to KSL.com.

“I’m supposed to be planning his birthday party for next week and now I’m planning his funeral,” said Mother Danielle.

Danielle is struggling to come terms with the story and is questioning how the adult carer was unaware of the child’s presence.

“I was given different stories. Finally, the police officers came and they previewed the film,” she said. “I’m just confused. I’m so confused on how you don’t know where my kid is. How do you not feel him? How do you not hear him scream” she asked.

West Jordan Police Sgt. Joe Monson confirmed to the press that the incident appears to have been and unfortunate accident.

A statement on behalf of the daycare centre reads:

“We regret deeply the tragic death of a young toddler at our day care facility. No words adequately describe the depth of the sorrow we feel. And, of course, we do not pretend to understand how devastating this is for the family. We know the family well, we grieve with them, and we pray that God will provide them the comfort and peace they inevitably will need.”

According to KSL Leo was one of four children in the Sanchez family. He has been attending the daycare facility for a year.

Heartbroken mother Danielle is imploring parents to love, hold and embrace their children.

“You just don’t know when the last time will be when you see your baby. I dropped him off at daycare not knowing I’ll ever hear his laugh again, hold him again,” she said.
