Woman in her 20s dies in Westmeath crash

Sad news.

A young woman in her 20s has died after a road crash in Co. Westmeath.

In a single-car collision on the L1122 at Ballinagore, the incident occurred just after 8.15 on Thursday evening.

The driver of the vehicle was the only person in the car at the time and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was removed from the scene and brought to Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar and a post-mortem is due to take place.

Gardaí were at the scene of the accident, they said in a statement last night.

A spokesperson said: “The road is currently closed to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators to examine the scene. Local diversions are in place.

“Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly appealing to any road users who were travelling on this road at the time with camera footage to make this available to them.”
