Some parents nowadays prefer to get rather experimental when choosing baby names, opting for peculiar picks, to which you can't help but respond, 'Pardon?'
While that can be some people's cup of tea, others opt for timeless yet unique names or even go down the more 'traditional' route with names that never really go out of style.
For reference, in July, the most popular names for baby boys and girls in 2024 were officially released, and the figures show the top three boys' names were Muhammad, Noah and Oliver, and for the girls, it was Olivia at number one, followed by Amelia and Lily.
The Liverpool ECHO has been looking into the most popular names for babies throughout the decades.
In addition, the research team at Go Au Pair have analysed data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to uncover the rare old names that are making a return.
They compared the top 100 baby girl and top 100 baby boy names from 1904 with the most recent 2024 ONS data to determine which century-old names are gaining popularity again today.
It appears that boys' names top the chart, with Oliver, Arthur, George, Henry, and Harry in the top ten, while girls' names such as Amelia, Lily, Ivy, Florence, and Elsie are popular, but generally have lower birth numbers than the top boys’ names.
Below, you can find the full list of rare old names which were popular in 1904, as well as the number of babies born with each name in 2024.
Some names will definitely sound familiar and will be more on the traditional side, however, other names which are making more of a comeback could definitely surprise you.
