ABBA have announced that they are pausing promotion of an upcoming show for 24 hours after two people tragically died at an ABBA tribute concert in Sweden.

An elderly man fell seven storeys to his death at a concert hall in Uppsala, a town near Stockholm, killing another attendee who was standing below.

Roughly 1,000 people had gathered at the Uppsala Konsert & Kongress hall where a tribute show dedicated to ABBA group members Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson was taking place.

At the show, called Thank You For The Music, a band covered some of the pop band’s most famous songs.

The 80-year-old man who fell, as well as a man in his sixties, died. A woman in her sixties was also injured in the accident, though police have said her injuries are not life-threatening.

Following the incident, police immediately closed off the concert hall and interviewed witnesses.

“In the light of the tragic news at the tribute concert in Sweden last night, we have decided to hold off on releasing our concert trailer until tomorrow. Love, ABBA Voyage,” ABBA wrote on Twitter.

The concert hall will also close from Wednesday to Friday this week due to the deaths.

“We are all shocked by the tragic accident and our thoughts go to the deceased, their relatives and their families,” a message on its website said.

ABBA previously announced the release of their brand new album Voyage back in September. A venue is currently being built in London that will host a unique show where the band will enter the digital realm and perform as digitised versions of themselves.

Information about these digitised avatars, designed by the same special effects company that worked on the Star Wars film franchise, is still unknown, but ABBA have said they will look like holograms. The show is scheduled for May 2022.

The holograms, known as the “ABBAtars” will represent Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad as they looked in 1979.
