Alanna bravely spoke out following the sentencing.
Speaking outside court this afternoon, Alanna Quinn Idris told reporters that she felt her victim impact statement had been “pointless”.
“I’ve to be like this now for the rest of my life and in four-and-a-half-years' time, he [Darragh Lyons] will be out." pic.twitter.com/bu5POsiSny— Courts News Ireland (@courtsnewsIRL) March 23, 2023
The Irish Sun reported: "I’ve to be like this for the rest of my life. In four and a half years he’ll be out and about."
Alanna added, "I don’t feel these consequences are justified considering how I have to be for the rest of my life.”
19-year-old Darragh Lyons pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm and violent disorder. Two other men will also face trial, but they cannot be named.
Alanna was only 17 when the horrific attack took place. The teenager has lost vision in one eye forever.
She also suffered a ruptured eyeball, fractured cheek, broken teeth, as well as a fractured eye socket following the attack.
Alanna has undergone multiple surgeries following the 2021 attack.
