Amazon issue emergency recall of baby product over suffocation fears

Sarah McKenna Barry

Parents have been warned to stop using the product immediately.

An emergency recall has been issued on a baby teether sold on Amazon over concerns about a suffocation risk.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has told consumers to stop using the Mushroom Teether Toys for Newborn Babies, Toddlers, Infants, Relieve Sore Gum – BPA-Free Chew Toy.

The products that are being recalled have been listed on Amazon since September 24, 2021.

According to the CCPC, the recalled products are dangerous because the mushroom head can flip around to create a tight suction, which in turn causes a suffocation risk.

It’s thought that there have been approximately 40 sales of the affected products in Ireland.

Those who have bought the product are being advised to stop using it immediately, and to contact Amazon through their online account in order to obtain a refund.
