Another person has been killed in a gender reveal party explosion.

A man died in Michigan, US last week when a “small canon device” being used to reveal the gender of an unborn baby exploded, spraying shrapnel pieces into the crowd.

AP reports that after being struck by one of the pieces, the 26 year old was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

“Three parked cars” near the garage where the gender reveal party was being held were also struck by the shrapnel.

This comes after a woman was killed in a similar explosion at a similar event in 2019 when a home made device exploded like a pipe bomb.

The victim died instantly when a piece of shrapnel that exploded from the device struck her in the head while at the party in Des Moines, Iowa.

One year later, a gender reveal party in California triggered 7,000 acres of wildfires after a couple used a “smoke generating pyrotechnic device” to announce the gender of their baby. Over 500 personnel were deployed to tackle the blaze, alongside 60 fire engines and four helicopters.

Evacuations were necessary in the areas surrounding the park. Many residents used the local community centre as a temporary evacuation facility as emergency services tried to get the fire under control.

“Cal Fire Law Enforcement has determined the El Dorado Fire, burning near Oak Glen in San Bernardino County, was caused by a smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party,” they said in a statement at the time.

“The fire spread from the park to the north on to Yucaipa Ridge that separates Mountain Home Village and Forest Falls from the City of Yucaipa.”

At its peak, the fire had spread up to 7,050 acres.
