Gardaí could not respond to attempted abduction call

There were not enough Gardaí to respond to the call.

Gardaí failed to respond to an attempted abduction call, the Dáil has heard.

The attempted kidnapping took place when a young girl was walking home in Rathangan, Co. Kildare.

Sinn Féin TD for Kildare South Patricia Ryan spoke out about the incident.

The reason why Gardaí couldn’t respond is because there were no cars at the local station.

There was only one Garda in the station at the time of the incident.

According to Extra.ie, a teenage girl was walking home when the attempted abduction took place.

She was walking home at around 4.15 pm when someone in a car approached her.

She told her parents about the incident when she arrived home. Her father then phoned their local Garda station at 5 pm.

Patricia Ryan stated, “A female garda was on her own at the station and, again, there was no Garda car.”

Gardaí told the family that they could not call out until 7 pm that evening.

“Gardaí in Kildare are investigating a report of an alleged suspicious approach to a child on January 31, 2023, in Rathangan, Co Kildare,” they told the publication.

Ms Ryan said Garda resources need to be improved urgently.
