The Australian parents who were involved in the controversial Thai surrogacy case have made contact after reportedly vanishing earlier this week. Child Protection Services in Australia could not make contact with the couple who allegedly abandoned a baby boy with Down's syndrome.
According to the Irish Times, Child Protection Officers visited the home of David and Wendy Farnell on two occasions but the couple and their baby daughter were not on the premises. Their dog was reportedly taken by animal protection services.
The case sparked controversy when it was alleged that Mr. and Mrs. Farnell had returned to Austrailia without their son, named Gammy, who had Down's synrome. The Farnells took Gammy's twin sister back to Australia with them. They claim they didn't know of Gammy's existence until after they returned home.
The Child Protection Officers are currently investigating the safety of the baby girl, who is just seven months, due to the fact that Mr. Farnell's previous sex convictions have been uncovered.
Mr. Farnell was sentenced to three years in jail in 1998 for sexually molesting two girls, aged seven and 10. The victims reported the crimes when they became adults. However, within months of being jailed, he was also charged with "indecent dealings" with a child under the age of 13. Mr. Farnell reportedly has 22 child sex charges.
The Daily Mail have since reported that the Farnells have made contact with Child Protection Services, however they have not stated whether this is person or by phone.
