Horrific scenes in Moscow today as a woman ran through the streets with the severed head of a child that was in her care.

Police in the Russian capital of Moscow have arrested a woman after the headless body of a four-year-old child was found in an apartment nearby.

Eyewitnesses say the woman wearing a burka walked through the streets with the child’s head in a bag shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ near Moscow metro station.

According to the BBC, CCTV also appears to show the woman carrying the child’s severed head before a police officer intercepts and tackles her to the ground.

The Moscow Investigative Committee said in a statement that the suspect is now in psychiatric care to determine whether or not she is mentally capable of understanding her actions.

The body of a three-to-four-year-old child was found in a nearby flat that had been burned down on a Narodnoye Opolcheniye Street in north-western Moscow.

The statement said: “According to preliminary information, the child’s nanny, a citizen of one of the Central Asian states born in 1977, waited for the parents and elder child to leave the flat and then, for reasons not established, murdered the infant, set fire to the flat and left the scene.”
