Beijing schools are set to close and construction will stop after a ‘red alert’ over smog levels was issued by city officials.

According to BBC News Chinese authorities expect more than three consecutive days of severe smog and cars with odd and even number plates will be banned from driving on alternate days in an effort to keep emissions low.

The alert comes as China, the world’s largest polluter, takes part in talks on carbon emissions in Paris.
