The teenager failed to return home on Tuesday.

Officers searching for missing 17-year-old Imogen Tothill have discovered a body in a wooded area.

The remains have not yet been formally identified but it is believed they are hers.

The teenager was reported missing on Tuesday after she failed to return to her home in Holmes Chapel.

On Wednesday, detectives issued an urgent appeal to help trace the missing girl.

Inspector Mike Crimes said her disappearance was “totally out of character for her” and police were “becoming increasingly concerned for her welfare”.

But the search ended tragically after a body was found in a woodland near the Ravenscroft area of Holmes Chapel, Cheshire.

Police now say Imogen’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Her family have been informed and a case file will be prepared for a coroner.

In a statement Cheshire Constabulary said: “Officers searching for a missing teenage girl from Holmes Chapel have sadly found a body.

“The body was discovered in a wooded area near to Ravenscroft earlier today, Wednesday 9 February.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place, but it is believed to be that of missing teenager Imogen Tothill.

“Our thoughts are with Imogen’s family at this difficult time.”
