The body of the nine-year-old girl who went missing from a wedding six months ago has been found.

Maëlys De Araujo vanished from a children’s room at a wedding reception in eastern France in August of last year.

Today, after months of searching, police discovered the young girl’s remains in a ravine.

A former soldier has admitted to killing De Araujo “involuntarily.”

The BBC reports that 34-year-old Nordahl Lelandais said he killed the girl after traces of her blood were found in his car.

Lelandais was also attending the same wedding.

Grenoble prosecutor Jean-Yves Coquillat said that Lelandais “got rid of” the girl’s body and offered his apologies to her parents.

The 34-year-old was arrested one week after De Araujo vanished from the wedding reception.

Until recently, he denied any involvement in the young girl’s disappearance.

Police questioned over 180 wedding guests about De Araujo’s whereabouts in the days following her going missing from the wedding.

Lelandais has been questioned about multiple missing person cases in the area.

His lawyer has since dropped the request for Lelandais’s release.
