Pharmacies to give Covid vaccines from this week

They’re starting the rollout tomorrow.

With the vaccine rollout in full swing, pharmacies across Ireland are joining in and starting to offer vaccines from this week.

UK and Ireland pharmacy giant Boots is set to be offering COVID-19 vaccination throughout its Irish stores.

Available from this week, Boots confirmed that 81 of its stores will be participating in the vaccine rollout.

And working with HSE guidelines, Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccines are also available in Irish pharmacies starting this week, however, these are only being offered to over 50s who may have missed out on their chance at a vaccination centre.

Beginning June 15th, any customer over the age of 50 will be able to book an appointment at Boots to avail of their vaccine at boots.ie/covid-vaccination.

When the customer gets to the page, they will need to click “get started” and fill out a pre-consultation form, and at the end they will then book their appointment and get a date for their vaccine.

Caoimhe McAuley, director of pharmacy and superintendent pharmacist at Boots Ireland, revealed that she was thrilled that the pharmacies could be taking part in the vaccine rollout.

She said: “Our experience in delivering vaccinations has been well established through the provision of the flu, pneumococcal, shingles and travel vaccinations. We look forward to applying this expertise and experience to vaccinating people against Covid-19 as the country continues to fight the pandemic.”
When it comes to getting a vaccine in other pharmacies, customers will need to book an appointment directly through their local pharmacy, there is no need to go online to register like the HSE has been doing.

The Irish Pharmacy Union has said there were around 140,000 people over the age of 50 who have not yet received a Covid-19 vaccine.

These vaccinations will take place in a separate consultation room and you will be asked to wait 15 minutes after receiving your vaccine to ensure there are no immediate side effects.
