3-year-old boy dies after being struck by vehicle in Limerick

The accident happened on Friday, July 21st.

A toddler has sadly died in a tragic accident in Limerick.

The 3-year-old was named locally as Padraig Cunningham.

Padraig died after he was struck by a vehicle outside of his home in west Limerick.

The heartbreaking accident happened at 10.30 am on Friday, July 21st.

The young boy’s death is currently being treated as a tragic accident.

Emergency services rushed to the scene in Limerick on Friday morning.

They transported the young boy to University Hospital Limerick after the accident, but sadly he didn’t make it.

Padraig was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A Garda spokesperson issued a statement following the young boy’s death.

“A 3-year-old child later passed away from his injuries.”

A Garda liaison officer is supporting the family during this heartbreaking time.

Family friend Jerome Scanlan said the local community is in a state of shock after the harrowing accident.

“We’re all trying to come to terms with the tragic news in Ballyduhig today.”

“My heart goes out to the family,” he told The Independent.

“It is just unbelievable that something like this could happen to a three and half year old child.

“It’s just a dreadful scenario. It’s dreadful for his mother and his father, as well as his three sisters.”

He added, “It’s just terrible, one never knows when you get up if you’re going to get to bed or what is going to face you.”
